Asylum
seekers, refugees,
precarious individuals, trans people...
This year again, we organized our Christmas dinner with the migrants of Marseille, in collaboration with David & Jonathan, at the Saint Basile AUP residency, on friday the 23rd of December 2022.

Arriving in Marseille, the
main problem is the housing issue. It is very difficult because like, on my
arrival here, I slept at the train station for three days. And after that, I
was directed to call 115,
because you need to struggle if you want an emergency shelter which is supposed
to be a basic human right for asylum seekers and refugees. I was fortunate to
get housing for one month and after that, it expired. I was out again to the
street.
PRIVATE HOUSING – no legal papers, you pay more
So, I spent about five days in
the street, and then, I met somebody from Sierra Leone also. His name is Ahmed.
He told me that he got some information about a house that is situated at 51
Boulevard Dahdah. If you have money, you can pay and you can have a place to
stay without any document or any papers. So like we went there, we contacted
somebody that's there; he was the provider of one room and bathroom and a
little bit of space to cook. And then he told us that the price was higher from
what was said previously, which was 300 Euro. He also said we have to pay in
advance before getting in. We paid in advance so we lived in this apartment for
two years. That was from February 2019 to the 14th of November 2019.
POLICE EVICTIONS – no proof of payment, no backup if any issue
On the 14th of
November 2019, at 8.00 in the morning, the municipal police of Marseille
entered in the building. They said that from today, nobody shall be able to
live in this building because it is not secure for us to live in anymore. So
you have to go out of this building today and it should be before 2:00. So we
thought it was a joke. We were more than 90 people living in this very big
building with a lot of apartments. There were people who bought apartment
already living there legally. But the police proposed for those people, who are
living there legally, to host them in the hotels until they find a house for
them. But for us, the Asylum Seekers over there, we rent but we don't have any
receipt from the apartment owners...

Our article about sexual practices under drugs:
"Historically, substance use and sexual health have been considered as
separate domains, both academically and clinically. However, as research
and theoretical models such as minority stress and syndemic theories
have demonstrated, substance use and sexual health can be inextricably
linked and can have significant cumulative effects on health,
well-being, and pleasure. This is especially true for vulnerable and
marginalized populations, including sexual and gender minority (SGM)
individuals and racial and ethnic minority individuals. These
communities are often disproportionately affected by higher levels of
substance use, community transmission of HIV, sexually transmitted
infections, and other sexual health conditions. Additionally, these
communities may face greater structural barriers when accessing, or
trying to access, substance use and sexual health services, such as
access to contraception and safer sex provision. New approaches which
consider the combined effects of substance use and sexual health within
marginalized populations are necessary. Papers, including empirical
research and reviews, are invited for this Special Issue.
Community-based participatory research and studies adopting an
intersectional approach to analyses were particularly welcomed"

CALEM AOZIZ |
This year, we had the pleasure to renew the official website of our local network:

|
AOZIZ is a network of inclusive
houses, founded by two performing arts companies based in Marseille, as well as
a research organization in the human sciences. With a particular ability to
work with mixed groups of disabled and non-disabled people, discriminated
minorities or migrant people, the practices of the body, the arts and
intersectionality are at the heart of the AOZIZ project.
Our goal is to promote new
intercultural encounters, thus creating a meeting point for diversity and
creation, to be together in an alternative way.
To do this, AOZIZ offers a
varied program of courses, workshops, conferences and residencies, inviting
artists, intellectuals, social leaders and public from all walks of life, to
deepen their research and exchange their ideas.
Since 2018, we have been
working on various inclusive activities at the start of the summer season, in
Marseille. Our network is also present during Prides Marseille, and works every
year in close collaboration with the Marseille Festival, alongside migrant
associations, health prevention NGOs, and the fight against all discrimination.
AOZIZ is a space for embodied
encounters, which will constantly expand its activities. It takes the language
of inclusion and makes it exist in bodies. It is a place centered on an
optimized practice on the links between people. It makes no judgments about
what ideal bodies or identities should be, but rather cultivates aesthetics
based on human relationships, from an intersectionally queer perspective.
